Professor Garcea was appointed as an HPB consultant in 2011. He graduated from Manchester University in 1996 and undertook an MD in Leicester in 2003. He has trained in Manchester, Leicester, London, Glasgow and has undertaken fellowships abroad in Australia, New York, Chicago, Paris and Heidelberg.
He is presently Deputy Medical Director for Planned Care. Professor Garcea is heavily involved in audit and research. He has over 200 publications in peer-reviewed journals. His main academic interests are in cystic lesions of the pancreas, hypoxia and stem cells in pancreatic cancer, acute pancreatitis and islet cell transplantation.
Outside of work his hobbies are Formula 1 racing, mountain biking and spending time with his family.
